Here are some reasons why you should build your own board:

1) If you want to experiance the "WHOLE" of Surfing and Skimming you need to shape your own board. It's not like a rule to shape your own board but it does help you learn a lot about boards.

2) Once you shape a board from scratch you will be better off when you need to repair a board you buy from a company. It really does help you understand what they do to make your board and how you can fix it yourself.

3) It can be a lot of fun. If you make your own board you can learn all the tricks to shapping and design and have fun with it. This will also allow you to use your imagination to create anything you want. You can make a board like no other and be the only one with it.

Building your own board also has disadvantages. The main one being that it is easy to mess up because most of the time you are not a profesional board builder. I mess up all the time but I have also learned how to fix my mistakes and learn to spot them right away. I will teach you how to fix the mistakes you make, but most of the time a board built by a company is better. I prefer to skim Victoria or Zap boards, but I use my own board more. It's all a matter of choice.
